From the vineyards in northern Tasmania, Ninth Island is clearly visible. Tasmania's most famous wine is named after this Island. The island is a paradise for wild animals, including penguins, dolphins, seals, and numerous native birds.
Princess Mary of Denmark's grandfather's boat was wrecked in the Bass Strait, and the survivors reached Ninth Island and were rescued. Ninth Island is a short helicopter flight from Bridport or Launceston or 12km by boat from the mainland pier at Bridport, about a one-hour drive from Launceston.
Bridport is famous for housing two of the top three golf courses in Australia: Barnbougle Dunes and Barnbougle Lost Farm. The no. 1 public access golf course, Cape Wickham on King Island, is on the left, and Waterhouse Island on the right sold quickly some time ago for $5.5m.
